BE AWARE THAT THIS IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

If you begin and begin and begin and begin you can finally know what you like and how you like it… or so you think and think you shall. Over and over and over. Click next, click next, erase, install, rebuild, reset, try again. There’s something in the ritual that feels so new and yet so…

…annoying.

I want to stop setting things up and tinkering with them but I don’t know how to stop. So anyways here’s what I do.

Install distro – This time is back Manjaro. I gravitate back to Manjaro every time I stray from the path to test something else. Why does everyone like Ubuntu? Everything seems more difficult on Ubuntu to me… maybe I’m just stupid. However, running Glorious Eggroll‘s fedora based Linux distribution named ‘Nobara‘ was a very nice experience I just think it has a… soft rounded safe baby feeling or something. I think I have synesthesia but for operating systems and their gui’s and strange, uncomfortable,and quite frankly, to most, disturbing connections.

Anyways you’ll need tools and apps and packages and images and etc. etc. but it’s all not really all that complicated because it all happens one step at a time.

TOOLS:
Ventoy – Download the Linux version at SourceForge
Netboot – This is just a great iso to add to your Ventoy USB.

Many distributions will come with Firefox as the default browser. I’m unsure that it’s the organization it should be at this point. Firefox has had some wins but mostly it makes the internet harder to use if you move between devices often. I currently use Vivaldi, however, I’m not currently in love with any one browser. I have created a fairly good system with Vivaldi, but I’m open to recommendations.

KEY:

  • AUR = Install it from the Arch User Repository (only Arch and Arch derivatives such as Manjaro or Garuda)
  • PAC = Install with Pacstall. Hopefully more and more people begin to use it so Debian (Debian and Debian derivatives based systems can have an AUR equivelant.

ADD GNOME EXTENSIONS:

  • Pano – A really nice graphical clipboard manager. except on this is currently not compatible with Gnome 46 so we’ll pivot to Clipboard indicator – ugly but it will work for the time being.
  • Click to close overview – If you use Gnome and dash to dock (which is often the standard way Gnome will be installed)
  • Open Bar
  • Task Widget

APPS:

  • Beeper – Makers of the eye opening (for the old people in congress) Beeper Mini. The app that proved Apple is only using iMessage to keep market share. So convenient. Two birds with one stone. Stick it to Apple and simplify my entire communication system. So much better to have all your chats in one place. I just hope they can add a feature to group people into one chat app. Discord, RCS, Insta, Facebook, Signal, etc. etc. Based on Matrix which is what Signal is based on. I don’t know what that means yet, but I like the word Matrix since I’m a 90s kid so I was probably going to gravitate to it anyway.
  • Vesktop/Armcord/DiscordClientorwhatever – Get one that lets you do your video sharing or whatever. I really want to switch to element or whatever that FOSS one is.
  • Vivaldi Browser – Not flatpak. It’s nice to have the GNOME Shell Extensions Firefox ‘Gnome Shell Integration‘ browser extension
  • ProtonMail – If you don’t want googs looking at your spams.
  • DCONF – Edit some gnome settings that have been arbitrarily decided on by the GNOME org.

  • Steam – Install from your official repo. Don’t install the FLATPAK (I mean go ahead but more often than not you want to use the native Linux app from your respective software center) open > log in > exit.
  • ProtonUp-QT – All the dependencies. Launch. Install for: Steam. Add version: GE-Proton [latest], SteamTinkerLaunch [latest]
  • Steam – Steam menu-settings-copmpatibility-Enable Steam Play for all other titles-Run other titles with GE-Proton[latest] (or steamtinkerlaunch but start with GE-Proton)
  • Heroic Launcher – Flatpak or Official. EPIC, GOG, Prime.
  • Lutris – I dunno, I still think this is hard to use, but people say to have it? Might as well.
  • Feral GameMode – I guess this does something for the scheduling of the gpu and cpu? I don’t know, just make sure to go through the gamemode.ini. There is something to do with
